Suicidal, Forgetful and Paranoid
Question: My mom was suicidal but after a couple of days she seemed different like lost and forgetting a lot of things, and acting paranoid. What could be wrong with my mom?
(From Neurology.com Ask a Question)
Answer: The symptoms you describe could be due to a number of different factors. Your mother needs to see your family physician, a medical professional who can listen to her, examine her, and help evaluate her condition.
The family doctor is your entry point into the medical system and they can guide you towards medical specialists if appropriate – in psychiatry, neurology or other specialties. If you don’t have a family physician, I’d start with the local community mental health services.
If she is increasingly suicidal, I’d suggest taking her to the local emergency room. And if she, in fact, attempts suicide, immediately dial 911.
